Hi, I’m Joni Obermark. I am teaching PE to the students this year. I live in Labadie, MO and have three children enrolled here at St. John’s School. One aspect of this parish I think is great is its size. The small population makes everyone feel like extended family.
I have lived in the area for most of my life. I was educated by the Washington Public Schools K-12 and then graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a BS in Agricultural Economics.
I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in sports and physical activity my entire life. Other activities I enjoy are gardening, raising livestock (chickens and pigs), cooking, boating and camping.
This year in PE for grades 3-8 we will learn the skills and rules for soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, track and field, and softball. Each unit will last approximately 3-4 weeks. In between each unit we spend one week playing traditional PE games like dodgeball, kickball and scatterball. There will also be a couple of weeks spent learning about nutrition and fitness.
In grades PK-2 we will practice locomotor activities (skipping, galloping, jogging, etc), manipulative(kicking, batting, throwing) and non-manipulative(balancing, stretching, etc) activities and rhythm activities during each class period.
It is my ultimate hope that the children participate in a wide variety of games and exercises so they can find something they can use to lead a healthy, physically active life.
The students have a possibility of earning 3 points each class period. Points will be awarded, one each, for effort, participation, and behavior. If your student averages 3 points/day, they will receive an O. If your student averages 2 points/day, they will receive a S. If your student averages 1 or less points/day, they will receive a N for that quarter.
